Acutronic is a Pittsburgh company which provides precise calibrations to inertial measurement units.  One major difference between a cheap inertial sensor in a smartphone and one used for submarine navigation or rocketry is the calibration quality. A full thermal calibration represents up to 50% of the total IMU price, and often costs slightly more than an entire smartphone ($300 and up). Advances in MEMS technology have brought the price of a raw IMU down by orders of magnitude, but calibration is done largely the same as ever.
