He is a former Swiss Air Force fighter pilot and flight instructor who has logged over 4,000 flight hours. Meier qualified on the Boeing F/A-18C/D Hornet with the U.S. Navy in 1996. He was a founding member and later leader of the Swiss Air Force’s PC-7 Team from 1998 to 1999. A graduate of the Joint Defense College in Paris, he holds a Diplôme d'Études Approfondies (DEA) from the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, as well as a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Security Policy from ETH Zurich. From 2021 to 2024, he was seconded to the Geneva Centers for Peace and Security Policy, where he contributed to a diplomatic dialogue on Arctic security. Since retiring in 2024, he has advised and served on the boards of private-sector companies.
